A weekend in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina teaching songwriting with intention.

The Ola Belle Reed Song Writer’s Retreat pays tribute to Ola Belle Reed, Ashe County, North Carolina’s National Heritage Fellowship Award and IBMA Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

North Carolina and nationally renowned songwriters on staff are excited to share their techniques in craft and art with you. Whether you are an experienced songwriter or about to write your first song, these retreats will help you add skills to your own magic, with detailed concepts, practice and instruction. 

The retreat will include workshops/lectures, song swaps, jam sessions, critiques, instructor concert, student showcase and more.  2022 Retreat instructors: Cathy Fink, Pierce Freelon, Alice Gerrard and John Cloyd Miller.

Registration Details

The retreat will be held in person at the Ashe Civic Center and a modified virtual option is available to those who cannot attend in person. This option will include the workshops/lectures in real time. Participants will access to the workshops/lectures online for a limited time after the event.

In-Person Registration: $300.00 adult | $150 student

Online virtual class attendance: $175.00 adult | $90.00 student

Retreat Details

Covid Protocols: All participants will be required to wear masks while inside the Civic Center if not actively performing. Additionally, a photo id is required along with proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours. Minors 12 – 17 may show proof of full vaccination or negative test. Photo id is not required for minors.
