Black Opry at the Ashe Civic Center

Join us for an unforgettable evening of country, Americana, blues, and folk music at the Ashe Civic Center with Black Opry—a community dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black artists in roots music. Black Opry is redefining the landscape, celebrating the talents of Black musicians who have long been integral to these genres but often overlooked. This event will feature a talented lineup of four unique artists who bring a fresh perspective and deep passion to their music.

Nikki Morgan is a North Carolina native whose powerful voice and soulful lyrics capture the essence of what she calls “Carolina Soul.” Having built her career in Chicago, Nikki’s music combines captivating melodies with raw emotion, grappling unapologetically with real life. She has opened for artists like Jaime Wyatt and Sean Watkins and recently achieved success in prestigious songwriting competitions.

Mel Washington, born and raised in Charleston, SC, brings a deeply personal touch to his music. Having toured across the U.S., Australia, and Europe, Mel believes in the healing power of music and the importance of sharing it with open hearts and minds. His life journey, from the challenges of a traveling musician to his stint with homelessness, infuses his music with a sense of warmth and authenticity that connects with listeners.

Jared Michael Cline of Wilmington, NC, is known for his simple yet profoundly honest performances. Influenced by life’s raw emotions—love, pain, and all the feelings in between—Jared’s songwriting touches on unspoken topics that resonate deeply with his audience. With a solid presence in Wilmington’s music community, he continues to grow as an artist and songwriter, leaving a lasting impact with every performance.

Rounding out the lineup is Justin Reid, an artist whose presence in the Black Opry community reflects the mission of uplifting Black voices in country and roots music. His contribution to the evening promises to showcase the talent and diversity that make Black Opry such a powerful movement in the industry.

Don’t miss this chance to experience the soulful, authentic music of Black Opry in a unique and intimate setting.

This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
